SOFAR has closed

SOFAR has now been wound up and deregistered and is no more. See below for details.

This website will stick around until August 2016 when the website hosting will expire.

Outcome of Special General Meeting

At a Special General Meeting of SOFAR held at 7:30pm, Tuesday 11th August, all the members present unanimously carried a special resolution to close down SOFAR and apply to the Department of Fair Trading for voluntary cancellation of registration of the association. A resolution was also unanimously passed to distribute the funds of the association to five different animal welfare associations in our area. The proposed distribution of funds must be approved by the Director General of the Department of Fair Trading.

Over the past few years, membership of SOFAR has been declining and fewer people have been attending SOFAR meetings and events. The dwindling of membership and participation meant that in 2015 SOFAR was unable to run a frog and reptile expo, an event that we had run for many years and was a major contributor to the finances of the club.

Also in the past few years we have had some difficulty in maintaining a full committee of management, with some people being elected at AGM’s and then subsequently resigning part way through the year, leaving remaining committee members having to fill multiple roles.
For some time now the viability of SOFAR to continue has been in doubt, and this was plainly evident at our Annual General Meeting in July 2015, when for the nine committee positions up for election only a single nomination was received. Clearly there was insufficient interest and availability from members to continue running the society, and closing down the club was the only possible outcome.
